I am lucky to have studios that I love so much in both places, and yet some days when we travel for work (and we all know this very well) we simply don’t have the time to wake up and get to the studio whilst maximizing meetings and content.

I don't know about you, but I am pretty sore! I feel like I am constantly sore and achy from my work outs. I don't always have the time to fully recover from tired muscles because I train or teach everyday which doesn’t really allow for that. With that in mind, there are a few tricks and things I have learned about the best quick and easy recoveries in order to keep up with your routine. You never want to be so sore that you risk injury or are unable to do your following work outs, so here you have some things to keep in mind that will help you with swift muscle recovery.
Always stay hydrated. Water is what makes up most of our body, but no matter how many times we hear it I still constantly have clients and followers telling me they drink a glass of water a day.... A GLASS?! And top that off with the fact that they also consume 1-2 coffees and then end the day with wine. It’s welcoming dehydration of your body and muscles with open arms. Water helps to rehydrate and restore muscles. It keeps the nutrients moving in the body and is key in maintaining a healthy weight.
Take a hot bath with epsom salts. Taking a warm bath releases the tension in your muscles. A lot of people aren’t the biggest fan of taking a bath versus showers... okay maybe just me. I am totally a shower person especially with being at the gym every day, I just jump in and jump out and get on with my life. I consider it a method to stay clean rather than self-love and care. The muscle relaxation component to taking hot baths is vital in recovery. When you add Epsom salts you are helping you muscles restore by supplying them with the muscle-relaxing mineral magnesium. During your relaxing bath, the magnesium is absorbed through the skin to target the muscle pain.
Use Icy Hot Medicated Spray. The new spray that was just launched is perfect for targeting sore and stiff muscles. We all know the brand thanks to their muscle patches that are saviours for things like back and shoulder pain, but now the new spray from Icy Hot is easy to bring anywhere and use anytime. It also dries quickly so you aren't left feeling sticky like a relaxant cream can sometimes do. A spray also makes it easier to reach strange areas. The back of my shoulders are always sore and so are my calves from a lot of jumping in classes like Bodylicious and Circuit. The spray is easier to target these areas.
Eating anti-inflammatory foods. Your muscles become sore because you over use or exert them. What’s really happening inside is you are ripping the muscles, and as a result they grow back stronger and bigger. The soreness is also caused by waste build up in the muscles from the physical work at the point of the tear. I always hear girls complaining that they started a new workout routine and now their pants don't fit. Yes muscles building will perhaps make your body grow in areas but ultimately the reason for that is muscle inflammation when you “tear” the muscles as they build. The goal is to eventually have them tearing less and less so that you can maintain the tight, toned and lean muscle mass many women desire. Eating an anti-inflammatory diet will help your body cope with the swelling of the muscles... consuming things such as olive oil, sage, ginger, turmeric, green tea, salmon, cinnamon, cloves, garlic, cherries and pineapple. Other foods that are great to help repair muscles are high proteins, and blueberries!
Consume vitamin c and Kiwi. Vitamin C is great in helping to prevent sore muscles. Foods like chili peppers, citrus fruits, and guava are high in vitamin c. You can add them into water while working out or post-gym smoothies. Kiwi is also great to snack on if you want to stay away from muscle soreness. There is a lot of potassium (540mg per 100 calories!) and kiwis are a wonderful replacement to always reaching for a banana. Plus bananas are higher in sugar!
Use a foam roller. When your muscles are feeling tight and sore, although this technique may be a painful one, rolling them out with a foam roller is a great way to speed up recovery. It will get the blood flowing to the muscles and will keep injuries away.
Keep moving. Keep up your workout routine. Giving up on it because you are sore, swollen or because it seems like a challenge will not help you. The only way to build stronger muscles and reduce soreness workout by workout is by continuing with your routine. Just remember to stretch and always take a rest day when it’s really needed!

I have actually never been to a Wanderlust festival which is part of the reason why I am so excited to experience this uplifting wellness retreat. I have heard amazing rave reviews in the past about all that it entails and finally will get to experience it myself.

When I travel I always also look for my favourite spots to work out and of course share with all of you. I fell in love with Pilates when I was in Palm Springs because I couldn't seem to find a spin studio. I thought why not and I tried it out... Funny enough, ever since then it has been pure love. I do pilates about 2-3 times a week now.
I found a studio in Toronto called Core Studio Pilates on my last visit and it was awesome. I booked in for a private class with their teacher Jenny. She was very attentive and specific about movements. Thats the beauty of 1 on 1 classes. It's a great idea if you are working with a teacher you have never done a class with before. I have tendencies to do certain things that she may not know and vice versa. Since pilates is so specific to our bodies and what each individual is capable of, it's important to pay attention when changing style or class.
She did the first 3rd of the class on a mat which was really great and warmed up your core and engagement. The rest was on the reformer, but was targeted specifically to me. I am not a beginner but by no means a pilates guru so she worked with that to meet my needs. I felt every part of my body moving and working!
The studio also offers barre classes as well. It was very nice inside, and rather serene. Maybe it was the time I attended class, but for me pilates is very calming. I do it to counteract spinning everyday which is very important. High intensity work outs on the same place of your body can be very intense on the joints and muscles. Pilates works to elongate and to stretch while toning muscles.

I discovered a new fave workout the last time I was in NYC.… SLT and it is freakin' hard! It’s similar to pilates but, in my opinion, much harder. Talk about a solid ab blast - ouch!
I absolutely loved it. Thankfully, I was able to keep on track thanks to my previous pilates practice, but it was definitely still a challenge.
I want to give a shoutout to the teachers at SLT Soho for being awesome. They were SUPER attentive to all of the students and made sure to know who was a first-timer, if anyone had restrictions or injuries, and help position and balance anyone if they were having any trouble. This is so key for a great class!
The studio is a studio, so keep that in mind! Don't think big gym or tons of people going in and out. You run in, do your 50 minute class, and run out. It’s NYC after all! People have places to be and things to do…
I loved the workout and was lucky enough to interview Amanda Freeman, the founder of the studio, about her take on the workout, what’s going on in the fitness world today, and how SLT came to be.
1. What makes SLT different than original pilates or reformer?
While SLT has its roots in pilates, it is more of a serious evolution of pilates techniques combined with cardio and strength training. Unlike pilates, SLT is a high-intensity, cardiovascular workout. Each move is done at a slow pace and for long periods of time, while the transitions between moves are lightning fast. There is less of a focus on breathing and more of a focus on pushing oneself to a personal limit. While the results are similar - strengthened, lengthened and toned muscles - the experience is very different and the results are faster and more dramatic.
2. In your opinion what has been the leading factor in making SLT as popular as it is today?
I think we are successful because we offer a workout that is both enjoyable and effective. The uniqueness of the workout along with the experience we offer has had wide appeal. There's nothing out there quite like it.
3. If one word could describe SLT what would it be?
4. What is your favourite nutrition trend of the moment?
Matcha tea - I'm addicted.
5. Where are you from originally and how has NYC helped you grow your brand?
I'm originally from New Jersey… a town that is considered a suburb of NYC. Starting SLT in NYC was key to our success. There is only one NYC. The population density, fitness-focus, and variety of types of people (ages, careers, schedules) created a great deal of demand at all times of the day. Also, the exposure to the media and influencers is maximized in NYC.
6. Post-SLT what is your favourite snack?
An apple + almond butter
7. What is your favourite wellness or health tip you follow?
I start my day with a 5-minute stretch session on the floor of my bedroom. I highly recommend it if meditation isn't for you. It's more of an active meditation.
8. What is your favourite workout song of the moment?
Shining (by DJ Khaled, Beyonce and JAY Z
9. What brings you happiness daily?
My daughter. She's so happy, energetic and funny.
10. Can you give us an inside scoop on what’s to come in the future for yourself and SLT?
Personally, I'm expecting my 2nd child in the Fall, so a lot of prep work has to be done to get ready for that.
Professionally, I'm looking forward to opening several more SLTs this year (Philadelphia, Hoboken, Park Slope, Brooklyn, to name a few!), continuing to grow our team of talented individuals, and constantly improving the experience we deliver to our clients.
It's officially been a week and a half since the tragic fire that struck my home away from home, Victoria Park wellness center. Victoria Park is home to Victoria Park Fitness Center, Vic Spin, classes like Barre, Reformer, Yoga and more, Vic Park Medi Spa, Vic Park Beauty, Lavendria Restaurant, Park Restaurant and Sous Chef. It is also home to over 600 loyal (and rather addicted may I add) members. We're all going through the withdrawal and tragedy together, so Vic Fam, this one is for you! First off, I haven't had clear thoughts to speak out about the fire. As an ambassador to the brand, the fam & the sweat we leave there daily, I decided it's about time I speak up about how I feel, how I can help any of my fam get through this and what our plans are moving forward... but first lets start with the rout of the love.
Here is a little truth about my time at Vic Park with my fitness trainer, mentor and friend Drea Wheeler. To the scale, I've lost 10 pound (and probably gained another 10 in muscle) since I started training with Drea back in February of this year. To the mirror, I've grown muscles in places I didnt know existed (and sweat there too trust me!). To the outside eye, I look like a crazy spin and bodylicious nut who trains every day and doesnt shut up about how amazing this place is. To my Vic Park fam, just another regular. And finally to myself, a happy, well rounded, balanced being who sees the positivity in healthy addiction, managing stress levels and someone who has grown a family she never knew. This place has changed my entire life, mentally and physically, one class at a time.
But it's not about the numbers on the scale or the way anyone sees me. It's about how I feel. Of course there will always be that gang of you who are ready to join VP because I just said I lost weight, and thats totally cool and your perogative, but personally I'm all about the happiness. The joy and the feeling inside and out. Confidence. What ever yours is and where ever it comes from. Its always been something Ive struggled with and it may always be, but if you find something that can better that in anyway, dont give it up. My life is changing with this confidence in who I am. Forget about in how I work or look but those parts add to how you feel. This is seriously thanks to Drea. My life changed, and most recently with all of my sharing, snapping, and story telling I've been getting more messages than ever on how I've changed others as well. This is my reason for what I do. So thank you!
Now lets talk about this past week. My balance was all off. I was sad, agitated and uncertain of a lot of things. I realized that the chemical imbalance in your body when your endorphins drop, your social fulfilment and your tribe like vibe disappear is life altering. Ask anyone close to me.... it was a tough past week and a half. Thankfully the past two days Drea has been hosting pop up bodylicious classes and FINALLY the new locations are out for all of us addicts to save our mental and physical selves.
Here is the list of where classes will be taking place until further notice - and can we just mention that in less than two weeks this amazing team found everyone substitute locations!
The fire hit a little too close to home, but the Vic Park team has been working around the clock to make sure they are back and running as soon as possible. Just take a drive by the spot on Victoria Ave and see how many workers are dedicated to speeding up this recovery process (active recovery anyone!?). It wont be until after the holidays (sorry to say) but they have done an incredible job of doing pop up classes, live streaming work out vids (you may have seen us winding and grinding on Facebook live the past two nights), and getting you the best possible support they can in this time. New locations have officially been confirmed as mentioned above for their temp homes until the VP 2.0 is ready for action. They are letting anyone who feels the need to suspend without a fee, they are giving us all one month free, and more little perks are headed our way in the following months. Vic Park is a family, and no matter the struggle you dont leave your family when its down. This is #VICSTRONG.

I was always hearing about reformer classes, and honestly had no idea what it entailed. Naturally, I had to try it out to see what the experience was like… little to say, I kind of fell in love!
So what really is reformer class? It is Pilates on what they call a reformer machine. Essentially it is all about resistance training, toning lean long muscles. For someone used to spin and sweat, this work out was a big change up. But trust me, you still sweat, and man are you sore the next day!
I first tried out a reformer class back in Dallas at Classic Pilates. I was staying at the W Hotel Dallas and directly next door was the studio. With all the buzz around this great work out I knew I had to give it a try, so I did. I had a semi private class with just two other people and our teacher was great. She really helped walk me through all the steps since I was a newb.
I had heard the buzz about it from NYC and LA but had never seen the classes back home... until I found out they were offered at fitness club, Victoria Park. I was able to try one out lead by the awesome teacher Jennifer Horvath. I still usually stick to my spin and bodylicious classes, but this adds in a nice change on a weekend work out. She too is great at showing you the steps as someone new to the reformer game, so don't be afraid of this contraption!
My suggestion, give it a try at least once. I was blown away by how sore I was (even as someone who gets their butts kicked by their trainer on the regs) and I wasn’t drenched and my hair stayed more or less in tact. A little extra bonus if your limited on coif time! It was a great way to wake up the body and feel rejuvenated. Think yoga meets Pilates meets TRX.

What a great day this year's Goal MTL was! What better time than a sunny Sunday to fill up Montreal's Molson Stadium with all of the cities best in food, beverage and media. Crowds came out to watch their friends and local celebrities battle it out on the field, an annual event that happens in Montreal hosted by the Burgundy Lion Group. Teams compete to win The Lion Cup, while others enjoy the sun. Entrance into the event is free, but all proceeds from raffles, food, beverage and other charitable initiatives go 100% to helping local little burgundy charities, Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre and Montreal Community Cares Foundation, and this we love!! The music and vibe was perfect. They also played the France VS. Iceland game on the big screens of the stadium, so in-between supporting your peeps you could watch the pros play. Some of the food and beverage on the scene was Brit and Chips, Burgundy Lion Bar, Imadake, Leche Desserts, Jamieson, Romeo Gin, Houstons and others.
All in all, the tournament helped raise 40,000$ thanks to the media support and charitable donations from all the participating bars and restaurants. The teams were Burgundy Lion Group, Vigilant Global, Evenko, Molson, Drinkerie\Lili & Oli, Labatt, Pabst, Rouge Bar, Imadake, Le Confessional/Somwhr Bar, Stash, Fiorellino, Thursdays, Sticky Media, Houstons, Bombardier, New Saint Laurent, Lord William, Chez Dallaire, Irish Embassy, Loic, Honey Martin, Arcotekk-Cbranche, Mile Public House, Knox Bar, Vans Canada, L'Orignal and of course of Media All Star Team!.... and the winning team in all of that was Knox, a newb on the Goal Field this year and of course one of my favourite spots! Congrats guys!

The hottest spin studio Montreal has seen since … well, ever! Montreal has never quite experienced a spin studio just like VIC SPIN. The well know boutique fitness center Victoria Park launched their top of the line spin studio this week and its hot, hot, hot.... but you'll have to jump on a bike, sweat it out, and see for yourself!
Vic Park has spared no expense. Planning to lead the spin game in Montreal (and who knows, maybe across Canada!) their spin studio roll out is serious. From the sound system, the lighting, ventilation, shoes, bikes and even flying in the best of the best in the spin world to educate their already top coaches of the newest, most advanced and safest methods of teaching, there is no turning back. Welcome to the world of Victoria Park (often known as Vic Park or VP), one of the hottest boutique wellness clubs in Montreal. Their services range from personal trainers, group fitness classes, health facilities, spa treatments, top of line medispa procedures, healthy snacking, sistering restaurants (like celebrity Chef Antonio Park's Park Restaurant and Lavendria), and even Vic Park branded apparel. Yes, the Park brand has successfully created a little universe in the heart of Westmount. Branding and image are everything when it comes to health and wellness. People will pick the facilities that make them feel a part of something that betters them in all realms. From my own experience, and my understanding of members and trainers a like, people become addicted to the VP world, and here I am on the band wagon. No one drags their butts out of bed at 6am to get to a work out that isn't engaging and fun as hell. No one will feel comfortable showering or prepping in a gym that doesn't cater to their needs. VP does, and that is the beauty of why their clients trust what they are getting from the service. From the locker rooms and the products like L’Oreal Professional hair care, hot hair tools, tampons, filtered water, steam rooms, to the coffee machines, fresh press juice, and stocked Muthins, they seem to have thought of everything. Members (myself included), are very thankful! One of my favourite little touches, the jars of bobby pins and hair elastics in the women's locker room. The Spa at Victoria Park offers tons of services such as anything from makeup application to massages, but my favourite part about the VP spa is the products they offer in their shop section. They do this to properly cater to their clients from start to finish. When specialist recommend products that are sometimes harder to get in the Montreal area, VP wants to ensure they have them accessible, and thankfully so because some of these are game changers in the wellness world! My top three products from the shop are Skinceuticals , Coola Suncare and one of my most recent favourites, NuFace. The Skinceuticals hydrating B5 gel replenishes the skin and helps it look and feel younger, is oil free and feels like on the face. One of the specialists at VP recommended this product to me and it has been great! Coola Suncare products are a great addition to your sun care routine. Not only are they great for before, during and after sun exposure, made from plant protecting agents, and are 70% organic certified but they are also great for the environment, created in solar power facilities and in cruelty free research labs. NuFace however steals the show, and this is the only place I have seen this product sold in Montreal so far. NuFace is an at home face lift process that works by sending microcurrent into the skin. It takes 5 minutes and can be done daily. You see the difference and tightness in skin immediately.
When a lot of people hear medispa they think of surgical procedures, Botox, and other aesthetic treatments. Yes, you can find these at Victoria Park, but you can also find an array of non-invasive treatments that are tailored to everyone, much less of a commitment and really target the general well-being and maintenance of beautiful radiant skin. Think of them as the future of anti-aging skin rituals. My favourite part, many of these treatments offered can be tailored to benefit audiences from 25-35 years of age, like myself.
