This past summer summer I made the choice to do my barre certification with Barreworks in Toronto. You may remember the name because I’ve posted many pictures and stories there attending classes and working out while in the GTA. I love the studio, teachers and the course did not fall short of that same expectation.
The training process is 3 days long and INTENSE. Not only is it physically intense but mentally as well. There is a lot of information to take it, but I will say that it leaves you extremely motivated to head out into the world beyond the walls of the studio and lead a class. When I returned to Montreal after the training I saw a huge difference in my ability to teach my own class (bodylicious) and my confidence changed as well.
You work with the intimate group over the three days to learn the principals of functional movement, cueing, demonstrating, correcting, use of language and so much more to take your future classes to the next level. Everyone comes to the class from different walks of life and what I found very interesting was why they wanted to pursue the certification.
My initial interest in the program was to have more certifications under my name as a group fitness instructor and to better my ability to lead - especially in bodylicious. After doing the training I realized that perhaps teaching barre was something in my future and of interest to me, which I initially didn’t go into the class thinking would be the result.
I also loved the community that came from it. Working closely with 10 girls over three full days of training, learning their background and realizing that you were not alone in your fear of achieving this new milestone… that was necessary!
The Follow Up:
Following the class you need to do an online exam, a video of a mock class along with a written class plan. You are then evaluated and once successfully passed, a certified barre instructor.
You can find more information on the certification HERE. I know they have a fall session coming up and continuously add in additional classes to better your teaching abilities. Even if you are just interested in taking a class with Barreworks, the studio is amazing and I strongly recommend it.
